Hi, I’m Xando! I’m a calm, friendly guy, and I really just like being close to my human whenever I can. My tail is almost always wagging—sometimes I don’t even notice it’s doing it! I’m still learning all about toys, but I’ve discovered that chasing a ball is pretty fun. Walks are one of my favorite things, and I love sniffing around the park with my buddy Murphy. I’m not picky about much, but I am selective about treats… I only get excited for the really good ones.

When I’m not out and about, I’m usually lying down and relaxing. Lately, I’ve taken up chewing on a ball while I hang out. I get very excited when it’s mealtime or when someone I like comes over—honestly, I love meeting every new person who walks in the door. But don’t worry, I settle down pretty quickly.

I love cuddles on the sofa and getting scratches, though after a while I’ll go find a comfy place to lie down. I’ve met kids (my human’s grandkids—they’re 6 and 8), and I thought they were great. I’ve only met a few dogs so far, but I get along really well with Murphy and like to play. I haven’t met cats yet, but I think I’d be okay with them.

Car rides are fun, though sometimes I try to sneak into the front seat. I’m learning that the back is where I’m supposed to be. I’m house-trained and doing well with my crate—I go in without any fuss. I’m practicing “sit,” “stay,” and recall… following my human everywhere makes “stay” a bit tricky, but I’m trying!

Sometimes I try to slip out the door because I just want to stay close. I’m gentle, playful, and looking for a home with a yard, a buddy, kids, or just someone who loves having me around.

Xando came to hart from our community of focus and is up to date on DACPP, Bordatella, and Rabies vaccinations. Xando is neutered and microchipped. While in care, Xando was experiencing recurrent eye infections and to the vet’s surprise, he had a porcupine quill hiding behind his eye. The quill has since been removed but his eye remains a little cloudy in which the vet stated will likely resolve with time. During surgery, the tip of the quill could not be located (~2mm) therefore not removed. The vet does not believe this will cause further complications.

A big thank you to Ozubko Realty for sponsoring our vaccinations.

Xando is a social dog who prefers to stay close to his person and often settles best when someone is nearby. He may whine or howl when left alone but he calms down shortly after and is settling more easily with a predictable daily routine. Xando is learning house routines and manners and responds well to calm guidance. He walks comfortably on leash, enjoys gradual social interactions, and may mouth lightly when playing or overstimulated.
