Hi there, my name is Rusty! I may come off as a bit shy and nervous at first, but once you get to know me, you’ll see the loving and loyal dog underneath.

Life hasn’t been easy for me so far, but I’m ready to turn over a new leaf with the right family by my side. I’ve recently been cleared for adoption after spending some time in foster care, where I’ve been slowly learning to trust and feel safe.

You might notice that I can be a bit on edge, especially in new environments or around new people.  But with patience and understanding, I’m learning to feel more at ease.

I have a routine that helps me feel secure, like our morning walks and occasional jogs. Exercise helps me burn off some energy and eases my mind.  Enrichment and positive reinforcement are really important. I also have a special bond with my foster family’s daughter. Her presence brings me comfort, though it can take me a little while to settle down when she’s around.

I get along well with other dogs and even cats, and I absolutely adore children. They seem to understand me better than most adults. However, I’m still working on my house training, so I need someone who’s willing to be patient and consistent with me.

Crate training has been a bit of a challenge for me, but my foster family is helping me work through it. They’ve even enlisted the help of medication and professional training to manage my anxiety. It’s a work in progress, but I’m determined to get better.

If you’re interested in giving me a forever home, please know that it’ll take some time for me to fully trust you. I need someone who’s willing to go slow and be patient with me, especially around men, who I find particularly intimidating.

If you’re up for the challenge and ready to give me the love and support I need, I promise to be the most loyal companion you could ever ask for. Let’s take this journey together, one paw step at a time.

Rusty is a handsome youngster who was transferred into hart’s care from a local shelter after having stayed with them for a couple of months. Rusty is in good overall physical condition, however displays anxiety symptoms and has recently been prescribed medication (which may be required long term). Rusty is up to date on DACPP, Bordatella, Rabies and is neutered and microchipped.

Rusty and his foster family are working with our training partner with a behavior modification plan.  To ensure Rusty’s new family understands his needs and how to support him, it is recommended that a potential adopter participate in Rusty’s training.  Ongoing medication to support Rusty’s mental health may be required.
